Ocian's Elven (#2 Tarquin the Honest)

Author(s): Gareth Ward

NZ Fiction

Tarquin the Honest and Lunar Nix return with more underhand shenanigans and razor-tongued repartee to pull off a heist so big, bards will sing ballads of their derring-do for centuries.

Created for the ancient dragons, a priceless treasure is kept under Elven lock and key at the heart of the great city of Ribekah. Tarquin the Honest, Wizard of the Silver Weasel, is under orders to ‘rehome’ the treasure from the ultra-secure Elderyn Museum. The mission is an impossible one – even the Thieves’ Guild thinks it is folly – but Tarquin has a cunning plan involving magic, trickery and a ragtag band with a unique set of talents. However, with the City Guard and a coven of vampires trying to thwart him, Tarquin must make a deal with the devil is he is to succeed. Can the wily wizard outwit the museum’s security, the vampires and the Thieves’ Guild or will the delinquent gambler’s chips finally be cashed in?

In this sequel to The Hand of Glodd, award-winning author Gareth Ward, aka The Great Wardini, has delivered yet another fast-paced, fantastical tale filled with magic, mayhem and memorable characters, both old and new.

More About The Product

I am a huge fan of award-winning author Gareth Ward’s books, as I’m sure you all know! He has a brilliantly clever way of writing that is humorous and engaging, and I’m frequently forced to read deep into the night because I need to know what happens next. His first two series (The Traitor & the Thief and The Rise of the Remarkables) are for readers aged 10 years and up and feature a myriad of interesting and quirky characters.

His latest series is for adults "snort-warm-ale-out-of-nose funny", according to Catherine Robertson and quite frankly, I agree! It is set in the fantasy world of role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. It follows Tarquin the Honest, a narcissistic but cowardly elf wizard, and his bunch of reprehensible acquaintances. One of my favourite characters is Lunar, a quick-witted dwarf assassin who would do anything for a sandwich. I loved the first book, The Hand of Glodd and as soon as the next installment, Ocian’s Elven, arrived I devoured it; it did not disappoint!

Tarquin's quest continues through towns of gold and grain, caves with nobbs and ancient tombs, over valleys, through graveyards and into the cursed Sorrow Wood forest. Every turn the band of misfits makes could be their last, as they are chased by murderous tree spirits, necromancers, zombies and goblins.

Another 10 out of 10 from me for this book and if you are new to his writing, or need a brilliant gift for the fantasy lover in your life, we are giving away The Hand of Glodd (book one) with every purchase of Ocian's Elven (book two)! Go on - you won't regret it!
